WINDOWS 11
Complete installation manual and troubleshooting reference for the DEBOTIX Windows 11 USB drive.
Contents
MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Confirm the target PC meets these requirements before installing.
INSTALLATION STEPS
Follow these steps in order to install Windows 11 from the DEBOTIX USB drive.
Connect the USB drive
Insert the DEBOTIX USB into a USB port on the target PC. A USB 3.0 port (typically blue on the inside) will provide faster read speeds during installation.
Restart the PC and open the boot menu
Restart the computer. As soon as the screen goes black, repeatedly press the boot menu key for your PC brand (listed below). The key is specific to the motherboard or PC manufacturer.
Select the USB drive as the boot device
A list of available boot devices will appear. Use the arrow keys to select the entry corresponding to the USB drive, then press Enter.
Start the Windows 11 installer
Select "Install now". When prompted for a product key, select "I don't have a product key" — the key is entered after installation completes.
Select the Windows edition
Select "Windows 11 Pro" from the edition list and continue. Review and accept the license terms.
Choose a custom installation
Select "Custom: Install Windows only (advanced)". Select the target drive (typically Drive 0), then continue. Installation typically takes 15–30 minutes.
Complete setup and activate
After the PC restarts into Windows, go to Settings → System → Activation, select "Change product key", and enter the key included with the product. Confirm to complete activation.
ACTIVATION TROUBLESHOOTING
Most activation issues are configuration-related and resolve after completing the checklist below. Work through each step in order before reviewing specific error codes.
Verify the Windows edition installed
Activation requires the installed edition to match the product key. Go to Settings → System → About and confirm the edition listed is "Windows 11 Pro". If a different edition was installed, it must be reinstalled as Windows 11 Pro before the key will activate.
Verify the internet connection
Activation requires a connection to Microsoft's activation servers. Confirm the PC is connected via Wi-Fi or Ethernet, then retry activation from Settings → System → Activation.
Verify the activation method
Go to Settings → System → Activation → Change product key, and re-enter the key exactly as printed, without spaces before or after. Keys are case-insensitive but must be entered in full.
COMMON MICROSOFT ACTIVATION ERRORS
Key already in use
This error indicates the product key is currently associated with another device's activation record on Microsoft's servers. This is a device-key association issue rather than a defect. Complete the checklist above first — most cases resolve on retry, particularly after a fresh reinstall. If the key still shows as already in use by Microsoft after completing the checklist, the order is eligible for a replacement key — see Support below.
Key flagged by Microsoft
Microsoft's activation service has flagged the key pending verification. This can occur regardless of key validity and typically resolves automatically within a short time. Retry activation after confirming the checklist above.
No connection to activation servers
Windows could not reach Microsoft's activation servers. Confirm the internet connection is active and not blocked by a firewall or VPN, then retry.
Activation servers unavailable
Microsoft's activation servers are temporarily unreachable. Wait approximately 30 minutes and retry. If the issue persists after several hours, review the checklist above again before seeking further assistance.
If you have completed all troubleshooting steps above and Windows still reports the key as already activated on another device, the order is eligible for a replacement key. See the Support section below.
USB / BOOT PROBLEMS
The PC does not detect the USB drive
Try a different USB port. Some PCs do not support booting from USB 3.0 (blue) ports — a USB 2.0 (black) port may resolve this.
The USB drive does not appear in the boot menu
Enter BIOS/UEFI setup (commonly F2, DEL, or F10 at startup). Locate "Boot Order" or "Boot Priority" and confirm USB is listed as a boot option. If present, disable "Secure Boot" and retry.
Windows reports the USB is not bootable
Confirm the BIOS/UEFI boot mode matches the drive format (UEFI mode is required for GPT-formatted media). Re-seat the USB drive and retry. If the issue persists, this may indicate a hardware fault.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the difference between BIOS and UEFI boot mode?
UEFI is the modern firmware interface used by most PCs manufactured after 2012 and is required for Windows 11. Legacy BIOS mode is older and may not support the security features Windows 11 requires (such as Secure Boot). Most PCs default to UEFI; this can be confirmed in the firmware setup menu.
Which edition should I install?
Select "Windows 11 Pro" during installation unless otherwise specified for this product. Installing the wrong edition is the most common cause of activation failure.
Can Windows be reinstalled on the same PC more than once?
Yes. Once a key has successfully activated on a given PC, Windows can generally be reinstalled on that same hardware and will reactivate automatically once connected to the internet.
Does the installation process erase existing data?
A custom installation formats the selected drive. Back up any important files before beginning installation.
SUPPORT
Most installation and activation issues are resolved using the steps in this guide. If a question isn't covered above, can walk through additional troubleshooting, or you can email technical support. If the checklist above confirms the key is still showing as already activated by Microsoft on another device, the assistant can verify your order and issue a replacement key.
